This Monday at Forever Friday started like many others—busy, buzzing, and bursting with deadlines. With three major event proposals due by close of business and a week’s worth of planning ahead, the day didn’t exactly seem to allow room for anything beyond the essentials.
But then came a spark.
Last week, Mihlali—one of our passionate and creative team members—suggested we celebrate Africa Day (which fell on Sunday, 25 May) by wearing our traditional attire to work on Monday. At first, I thought it would be a simple dress-up day, nothing more. Still, I showed up—Springboks rugby jersey, khaki shorts, bucket hat, and vellies. Unsure, but present.
And then, just after lunch, when the office took its first real breather of the day, Mihlali stepped in with something truly special.
She had prepared a quiz. But not just any quiz—an African knowledge challenge filled with questions on flags, cultures, geography, heritage, agriculture, landscapes, and more. No phones, no Googling. Just memory, curiosity, and pride. For every right answer? A sweet reward.
What unfolded was more than just a lighthearted competition. It was a moment of learning, laughter, and most importantly—connection.
We weren’t just answering questions. We were seeing Africa through someone else’s eyes. We were reminded of how vast, diverse, and rich this continent is. And more than that, we began to understand what Africa Day truly means to Mihlali. Her pride was contagious, her effort remarkable, and her intention deeply felt.
This is what company culture should look like.
A place where people feel free to bring their ideas and passions forward. A place where heritage is honored, where diversity is respected, and where we don’t just tick boxes on calendars—we listen, we learn, and we grow together.
That evening, I took the quiz home. Around our family dinner table, we played it again—and just like that, Mihlali’s spirit had made its way into our home. We laughed, learned, and shared stories. It was one of those small moments that leave a lasting impression.
Forever Friday, this is what you do best.
You give people space. You let culture breathe.
You inspire us—not just to work hard, but to see each other fully.
To Mihlali: thank you for reminding us of the beauty of Africa, and the power of pride rooted in identity.
To the Forever Friday team: I am, without a doubt, Forever inspired.
